Clove, saffron and thyme open warm and spicy, nothing like the vanilla you were expecting. Leather and heliotrope add a smooth, almost powdery depth at the heart. Then bourbon vanilla and incense take over: rich, dark and smoky, vanilla pushed as far from simple as it goes.

How it wears
Dark, spiced, close. Clove and saffron first, leather in the heart, vanilla and incense underneath. Unisex, no age. If you want a vanilla that refuses to be dessert, this is the one.

Longevity and projection
Eau de parfum at 22 to 25 percent concentration. Eight to ten hours on skin, longer on fabric. It sits close to the skin from the first hour; the person next to you notices before you do. Two sprays are enough.

When to wear it
Written for a Lisbon evening, worn all year. Winter is its home; summer nights keep it, smoke over warm skin.

10 ml or 100 ml
Same batch, same concentration, same bottle in miniature. The 10 ml is filled to order and is the way most people start. The 100 ml is one of 250 numbered bottles.

WHY WE MADE IT?

A vanilla perfume sounds simple, doesn't it? We thought so too, until Ribeira proved us wrong. We made it again and again, chasing a vanilla that smelled like no other: pure enough to feel like the real thing, complex enough that you can't quite name everything in it. Clove and saffron sharpen it, leather darkens it, incense sends it up in smoke. Simple was the easy version. We weren't interested.
